1. Tell us about the Kidokinetics concept.
Kidokinetics is the brainchild of athlete Terri Braun. She developed our engaging, sports-based curriculum combining years of research from physical therapists, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, youth development counselors, and school directors. Our programs reveal, enhance, and uplift the creative energies tied to thinking and movement. This leads to improved communication, decision making, problem solving, and social skills. Our focus on individual achievement through sports helps children develop CONFIDENCE – DESIRE – DISCIPLINE. Not everyone is a natural born athlete, but we believe all children should have an opportunity to develop their skills by inspiring them to move, play, and learn.
2. How and when did you become involved with Kidokinetics?
Our Founder, Terri Braun, is an athlete, leader, teacher, and mother of three. When she began Kidokinetics, many people asked about starting a Kidokinetics in their community. So, Terri set out to build a franchise system that would make it possible for others to share in her vision and to bring sports knowledge and fitness skills to children of all ages and abilities. Her programs keep children moving and active and are especially in-demand as schools eliminate recess, cut their P.E. programs, and kids have more screen time, at school and at home. What is magical about Kidokinetics is that we’ve made string to achieve goals an exciting experience—one that is so much fun, kids aren’t even aware of the fact that they’re learning.
3. What was your background prior to joining Kidokinetics?
I started teaching kids at the age of 12 and always knew I was going to develop a program for kids that would give them the opportunity to be introduced to all sports in a non-competitive environment. Giving them a chance to try all sports while enjoying a Fun Way to Fitness. I have been competing on a national and international level in karate since I was very young and knew that not every child was competitive but it was imperative that all children become active and stay active. That lead me to develop this non-competitive program that could get all children active and introduced to all sports.
4. What are some of the advantages in being a Kidokinetics franchisee?
Kidokinetics is a unique mobile physical education program that provides top notch programing for children ages 6 months-12 years introducing them to all sports and follows the appropriate NASPE guidelines to make sure that all the children going through our program are learning the appropriate gross motor skills. We are also teaching children nutrition, physiology and anatomy while being active. Our franchisees all attend yearly trainings and have access to new ideas in our manual. Our brand positioning is very strong, there is also an ever increasing need for children to be more physically active and schools to have more P.E. This is a great advantage of being a Kidokinetics Franchisee.
5. Who is your ideal franchisee?
Our ideal franchisee is someone dedicated to health and wellness, someone with dynamic and professional character, an outgoing and fun personality, a good business mind, strong sales and customer service skills. They must love working with children and have a desire to make a difference in their lives. We are looking for someone who can maintain a good rapport with parents, teachers and directors.
6. Tell us a little about the Children's Fitness Market?
Kidokinetics is an awesome and dynamic program that directors, teachers, and children love because of our creative ways to instill a love for fitness. We come to your school/park for as much time as you’d like — one hour, three hours, or all week — with a curriculum that builds on the children’s skills. We create a fun, positive environment where each child is made to feel special. Not only are we teaching the importance of exercise, we are strengthening cognitive, motor, and social skills
Kidokinetics’ proprietary curriculum has been developed with the support of our national partners using the latest research in sports, fitness, nutrition, and child development. Kidokinetics has a variety of programs for kids of all ages, interests, and athletic abilities. We want your children to be engaged and energized as we instill in them a life-long love of sports, fitness, and fun.
7. What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned in growing this franchise?
Every child deserves a sporting chance no matter what their athletic ability. We have had children who are athletes come through our program and excel and children who are not athletic and excel. We just want every child to feel competent at what they do. Every child deserves the same shot at doing exercise from day one and it’s our responsibility to make it fun and enjoyable so they continue for a lifetime.
8. What advice do you have for someone looking to acquire a Franchise?
Make sure you are passionate about your business you are buying and that every day you wake up you love going to work and that you are making a difference in the life of our future generation.
9. In your opinion, why do you think that Kidokinetics would be a great opportunity for someone?
Kidokinetics is our future and our generation needs to be healthy and we need to start taking care of our children and the way they think, eat and exercise from a very young age. If we can give them a positive outlook on physical activity and spread the word in as many schools, preschools, daycares, parks, community centers and more as possible then we are making a difference. One child at a time.
